Während eines dreimonatigen Forschungsaufenthalts in Ghana 2023 soll der gerade erschienene Band „Education in Ghana. Histories and Politics. Bamenda (Cameroon) 2023.“, den ich gemeinsam mit meinen ghanaischen Kolegen Edmond Akwasi Agyeman und Akwasi Kwarteng Amoako-Gyampah herausgegeben habe, als kostengünstige Studienausgabe neu aufgelegt werden. Auch eine Buchpräsentation ist in Planung.

Ebenfalls in Bearbeitung sind zwei weitere Bände:

• Gender in Visual Culture Africa-Europe (hg. mit Gertrude Nkrumah), Berlin 2023.
• Gender, Old Age and Social Security (hg. mit Henry Kam Kah), Berlin 2023.

Germanistik-Tagung an der University of Education, Winneba (Ghana)

Seit Februar 2009, also 15 Jahren wird an der University of Education, Winneba (Ghana) Deutsch gelernt. Sie ist die einzige Hochschule in Ghana, an der eine Ausbildung in Deutsch erfolgt. Ich bin sehr stolz und glücklich, dass ich diese Entwicklung von Anfang an erleben und während meiner Aufenthalte in Winneba jedes Jahr begleiten durfte. Inzwischen wurde die Deutsch-Abteilung an der Uni Winneba in eine Instituts- Partnerschaft miteingeschlossen, die die Universität Bayreuth mit den germanistischen Abteilungen der westafrikanischen Universitäten Abomey-Calavi (Benin) und Lomé (Togo) unterhält. 

Doktorandin Nina Paarmann und ich (beide Europa-Universität Flensburg) stellen auf dieser Tagung Ergebnisse unserer Forschungen in Ghana vor.

ECAS: European Conference of African Studies

Cologne, 31st May – 3rd June 2023

Participating at the European Conference on African Studies in Cologne this Year. Topic was „African Futures“. A big and interesting Conference with around 250 Panels and 1400 Presentations.

Besides the the Panels we were also meeting with old friends and new Friends from Westafrica: Prof. Walter Gam Nkwi (University of Leiden/ Netherlands and University of Buea/ Cameroon; Dr. Kojo Opoku Aidoo (University of Ghana, Legon).

Visit to Flensburg University

During the stay at the Europe-University Flensburg 9-14. Januar 2023 we met with the representatives for the excahnge-programme with our partner-University University of Education, Winneba (UEW). In the Campus Suite of the University we met with 7 from eight students from Winneba, staying for a guest-Semester at this University. With us is Luciala Morales , the leader of the organisation of the programme for the foreign students.

Representing the Marie-Schlei-Foundation, 21st of May 2023

The Marie-Schlei- Verein is a friendly organisation to our NGO  „Cultural Diversity e.V. “ While we are sponsoring educational projects in Africa and book-publications in cooperation between Africa and Europe they are funding women’s projects especially in rural areas.

For many years now I am member of this organisation and also projects in Ghana were part of the acitvities.

Yesterday, the 21st of may 2023 there was a festivity for celebrating 50 years of the active existence of the community of social democratic women in Germany (ASF /Aktionsgemeinschaft sozialdemokratischer Frauen) in the Willy Brand House in Berlin. In her speech, Katharina Barley acknowledged the performance of the Marie-Schlei-Verein in the history of the ASF as a necessary part of global solidarity between women in the tradition of the social-democratic party.

There was a table to present info material of  the Marie-Schlei-Verein. I also showed articles from Ghana made by women. Many participants of this event showed interest.
